Cream of the Crop!

SCA Detroit wants to congratulate the youth and the crew leaders that participated in this year’s Conservation Leadership Corps!  The work they accomplished and the impact they’ve had on the community is truly something to uplift and admire.

Within their respective groups, they built two outdoor classrooms to study environmental justice, repurposed a vacant lot into an attractive pocket park, and restored natural habitats on Belle Isle by removing phragmites, honeysuckle, ragweed, thistle, purple loosestrife, and other invasive species of plants.  They also cut a mile extension of the only existing mountain bike trail in Detroit at Rouge Park.  Finally, they also designed and cut nearly 400 yards of recreational trail connecting the Brightmoor Farmway to Eliza Howell Park along the Rouge River.

Their work is even more amazing especially when you consider it was all done in 90 plus degree weather while being hounded by blood-thirsty mosquitoes.  We are truly proud of their perseverance, leadership and attitude!  Congratulations everyone!
